It is important to note that changing the information under “Paper and Print Run” can switch between processes. For example, some products are manufactured using digital printing for small print runs and offset printing for larger print runs. But what is actually behind these different printing processes, when is which technology used and what does that mean for your order?

The term “digital printing” includes various processes in which the printing ink is applied directly to the printing material. The selection of the digital printing process depends mainly on the chosen product and its material. For example, banners, flags or photo mugs are produced using sublimation printing. For small print runs, digital printing is faster and more cost-effective than the more complex offset printing process, which, however, pays off in terms of costs and efficiency from a certain print run.

Offset printing works differently: These are various indirect planographic printing processes in which the printing ink is first applied to a printing plate and then transferred to the paper. The difference between sheet-fed and web-fed offset printing lies in the type of paper used. In sheet-fed offset printing, large sheets of paper are used as the printing material, while in web-fed offset printing, the paper comes from a roll. The latter is particularly efficient and fast and is therefore particularly suitable for very high print runs, such as when printing brochures, magazines and books.
